First Burek! Yum!

Here’s more fun pictures!  Again, they have nothing to do with the journal entry.

Before I even get started, I have to say a BIG HAPPY BAPTISM ANNIVERSARY to a few of my Slovene friends.  During the month of October, 1995 three amazing people were baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  Of course I’ll talk about them more, once I get caught up to that point.  In the meantime, Dora, Bojana, and Marko, I love you all!  I feel so blessed to have been part of the wall paper of your story.  You are all inspirations to me, and my family.  (Spoiler alert!  This is the same Bojana from the journal entry below.  #sorrynotsorry)

13 July 1995

Oops, I guess I should have written in between the 10th and now, but what can I say.  I’m a slacker.  Ok, let me ‘splain.  No, there is too much.  Let me sum up.

Monday!  Shoot!  I don’t remember!  That’s what I get.  Perfect example of why I need to keep a journal.  Wait, wow I’m brilliant.  I can look at my planner.  Oh yeah, of course.  Monday was service.  It was cool too, because I actually had a conversation with the lady I was working with.  Then we went to the Klobcic’s house to visit.  It was so cool, because  it was on service so we made them a fun little game to focus more on doing things for each other and others.  Then we visited the Redjenovic family.  Their son goes to college in the States and speaks almost perfect American English.  It was great!  I understood almost everything.

Tuesday was ridiculous!  We stayed home all morning long trying to make this experimental lemon cake for Jelka’s baptism that ended up being so heavy it could sink a bouy.  Then we went to visit Branko and have Jarnej play the cello for us, but found out Branko is on some island in Croatia, and Jarnej took his cello to his cottage.  He said come back after the 22nd and for sure he would play for us.  Hopefully Branko will be back, have read the Book of Mormon, and wants to be baptized as soon as possible.  That is, of course, if he can get over his dream of being a hermit at 65.  Then we went to visit Masa.  She met Elder Vandergraff on the street and he referred her to us.  She and her boyfriend don’t believe in God, but at least they have a desire to hear more.  She said she’d come to church Sunday.  I hope she does.

We went to Jelka’s baptism.  It was awesome!  Poor lady had to do it four times, but hey, I think eternal salvation is worth getting your face a little wet.  Bojana also came, which was great.  She really liked it.  We met with her after and it was cool.  For sure she will be baptized.  She said she would, but she didn’t want to set a date yet.

Wednesday! P-day!  It was cool.  We stayed home and wrote letters, went to Julci’s, of course, then came home to nap.  Wow!  That felt good.  That night we went to Tanja’s for a member missionary appt.  It was so fun.  Tanja was so hyper and we all laughed so hard.

Thursday.  Finally, – fast – This morning was correlation and DDM and planning meeting for Hawaii (a big branch missionary activity).  Then we met with Bojana and Mitja came.  It was so cool.  Mitja really helped out.  I’m glad he’s excited about doing member/missionary work.  We started teaching Bojana all over again with the 1st discussion.  She had a concern about asking such direct questions, and especially because she had already been asked them.  Mitja had the best comment.  It was how Jesus asked Peter 3 times if he loved him.  I like that analogy.

I bought some shoes today.  They are so cool and now I really feel like a Slovene.  Then we went tracting.  We got in a couple time, but no one wanted to hear about the church.  This one old lady let us in.  Holy cow, she was so scary, and kind of weird.  Okay, more than kind of, but she was nice.  We came in and she had fabric and sewing stuff everywhere.  She used this old machine, like pre-20th century.  I had no idea what she was making or if she was just sewing fabric together.  Then she made us some sadnji caj and fed us some potica that must have been in her freezer forever.  The whole time she hardly said a word.  WEIRD!  Then we left, tracted a little more, and went on an eating binge.  Now, of course, I’m late for bed.  When will I ever learn?

Oh boy!  With that last paragraph, please remember that I was still pretty young and immature.  Continuous learning is what this life is all about, right?!

    • Ha! I didn’t remember that. I do remember thinking he was very handsome. I guess there’s always something about nice eyebrows.
