October Overload

Ok, ya’ll, this is going down.  I have been slacking and it can keep going on.  Today is the last day of October.  Yep, Halloween!  Happy Halloween!  It might be scary how much I sit and write today.  It won’t all be on one post, but I want to start with November tomorrow.  Plus, I’m making a deal with my girls.  They don’t know it yet, but we are writing everyday in November.  I forget what it’s called, but it’s a thing.

Part of why October is so magical is because it’s my birthday.  That doesn’t mean I’ve had amazing birthdays every year, but I choose to view them that way.  I love to celebrate that I am alive.  No matter what I’m doing, you can’t get me down on my birthday, at least not for long.

I can’t believe that I didn’t even write anything yesterday.  It was my birthday!!! It was pretty cool. Weird though because Sister Mix went home.  She was definitely a cool comp. It’s also weird that she will be meeting my family in a few days.  Crazy! So we all went to the train station and said goodbye. Then we went over to the other sisters, since I was with them.  Then we did laundry. Oh, it was so good to have hot water! Then we went to play volleyball with the elders. It was cool, but interesting.  They were all playing basketball when we got there. Bojan was even there. They just kept playing for about 15-20 minutes after we got there, so Sister Groberg and I grabbed Elder Tingey’s hackey sack and started to play, but neither of us are any good.  So we started playing volleyball with just the 3 of us sisters. It was cool. The elders came and joined us after a little while.

Afterward, we ran home to shower and then met Sister Purser, my new companion, at the train station.  She seems pretty cool so far. Then we didn’t have anything to do, and we were both dead, and starting our fast, but had no food and no clean dishes, since we have no hot water, so we called the Fryers and went to dinner with them at Ljubljanski Dvor.  It was so fun. Elder Fryer bought me a little bouquet of dried flowers, that a lady on the street was selling, for my birthday. Then, when we got home, Mateja called to say vse najboljse. Then Boža Lotric called too. It was so sweet. I loved it. She is just one of my heroes.  Bojana brought me a little gift at the train station in the morning, a photo album, which is perfect, and I got a card from Anka in the mail at church on Tuesday. It was so awesome! Now we have tons to do today. Well ok, not tons, but we are teaching Maja ½ of the 4th discussion.  I’m kind of nervous for her questions. Oh well, it will be fun.

I almost forgot to write about the concert on Tuesday.  It was so cool! It was at an insane asylum (may have been a slight exaggeration).  Wow! After we were done singing, everybody in the audience took turns singing.  One lady even danced for us. It was the best! Plus, it was in an old chapel, turned into a gym, so the acoustics were awesome.  I was sad Tuesday night, though because we had an appointment and missed English class and Luka and Barbara came. Barbara has an ad out for Dr. Martins right now.  It’s a picture of Luka. Cool, eh! I need to call them.

So, getting a new companion can be a hard adjustment.  Sometimes it takes a few days to get used to each other’s quirks, habits, and personalities.  I’m not sure if Sister Purser ever got used to my quirks, but we did have a lot of fun together.

The last few days have been mighty interesting ones.  It’s crazy, we haven’t been getting many proselyting hours in.  I think both Sister Purser and I are falling apart. Neither of us has been feeling well.  We also had been run into the ground the last couple of months, and our bodies had hit overhaul.  So, Friday we were home for lunch and for Alenka’s call (she never called, grrr..), when the door ring and I go and open it.  Standing at the door is an older lady selling lace and cut-work linen tablecloths. Sister Purser wanted to see them for her mom, so we let her in.  Holy cow, they were 300-400 DM. That’s dang expensive, and man she just wouldn’t give up. She kept going down, and down, so finally Sister Purser bought the tablecloth for 8,000 tolars.  That’s about 65-70 dollars. It was about $250-$300 down from the original price she was offering them for. Oh, she was scary though. She just kept staring down our apartment, and we couldn’t get her to leave.  Finally, we got her out. Hey, but that tablecloth was the most gorgeous cut lace I have ever seen. Plus, I got a napkin as a gift, more like a trade for my perfume she had seen. Anyway, it will be a cool doily.

Then, no one we went to visit was home.  We kept being clutzes and then we came home, and told old boyfriend stories…oops…until 11pm.  I promise we didn’t know it was that late.

Yesterday we didn’t leave the house in the morning.  Sister Purser wasn’t feeling well. Then we went to Mojca Bolta’s (landlady) house.  She filled us with stuffed paprika, yum! Then we went to sing on the trg. It was fun.  Katja and Marko came and we talked to a lot of people. There are 3 girls about 16-17 who are coming to church tomorrow, and we got a new phone #.  Yay! Then we went to McD’s and got Elder Ledbetter’s girlfriend problems. We told him to not worry about her, and just be a missionary. It was so funny though.  He gave the most classic line. He says, “Most people think I’m such a jerk, but I’m really not. Really I’m the nicest guy in the world.” I love it! It ranks right up there with Elder Tingey’s, “I’m becoming a man.”  Man, I’m sure glad that the elders keep me laughing. (Just to clarify, Elder Ledbetter really is a nice guy, and the mission surely helped Elder Tingey become a man.  Like I’ve said so many times on this blog, I loved everyone that I served with and will forever consider the elders my brothers.)

So, today.  It’s still morning, so I’ll have to wait for these adventures.  Man, I was worried about how sister Purser and I would get along.  Now, I think it’s too well. But hey, we’ll see.
